Variable Definition

Annual maximum Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) in an area. NDVI is an indicator of vegetation ‘greenness’. NDVI ranges from -1 to 1, with higher values indicating more vegetated areas that are also greener. Interpretation: Maximum of the annual maximum NDVI values in effective urbanized area (excluding water and vegetation) with bias-corrections for cloud, heavy aerosols, and shadows. Large value reflects higher prevalence of vegetation, particularly greener vegetation.
